Nokia C3-00: Facebook, chat on the move for hip-hop class

Emails and messaging services, once widely used by the business class, is now being thrown open to the ‘cattle class’ as well towards what is now famously called the ‘democratisation of chat’. Nokia, for one, is taking social networking and interactivity to the next level by allowing users customise up to 10 email accounts on their Nokia C3-00s, due for launch at the end of next week. This means that customers can access their Gmails and Hotmails simultaneouly at any given time.

Opening up the social interactivity platform further, the new series will also offer Facebook and Twitter on the C3-00s. “There is also a provision to configure up to 10 instant messaging platforms (chats) on the C3-00,” explains Viral Oza, head (activation), media and online marketing, Nokia India. With a single login, the user can access his email and messaging platforms while on the move.

The sub-Rs 7,000 price range aims at 18-25-year hip-hop youngsters who wish to stay connected with friends.

There is a single-click access to social networking, and users can view alerts and news on their home screens, almost simulating a PC-like experience. This also enables quick navigation through their friends’ latest posts.

The C3-00 has a full QWERTY keypad, which makes messaging and accessing emails easy on the 2.4-inch screen. The phone has a 2-megapixel camera, media player, FM stereo radio, 3.5 AV connector, support for up to 8GB memory card and a built-in handsfree speaker.

Even as excitement is building over the Nokia 8 series, designed on their latest Symbian 3 operating system, expected to be announced at the Nokia World, London, on Tuesday, the company is readying a different strategy for India. “The N8 series is targeted at a different audience, but as far as India is concerned, we are opening the social interactivity platform to youths, who form 45% of the population,” says Oza. Having tasted success on this series in Indonesia and Vietnam, the phone-maker is optimistic of user response in India as well.

Nokia X2's Official Price Increased to Rs. 6,579

Nokia's low-end X Series phone, the X2, was first heard of back in April 2010. The phone has now made its official entry to India - five months after its existence was revealed.

The X2 which was supposed to be officially here by June has seen its launch delayed by almost three months. Now that the phone is here, let's take a look at its specs again.

It boasts of a 2.2 inch QVGA display, dedicated music keys, dual speakers, Bluetooth 2.1, 3.5mm headset jack, FM radio, Nokia Messaging, Facebook integration and microSD card support. The phone, unlike most other X-Series handsets, runs Nokia's proprietary S40 OS.

The highlight of the phone is its impressive 5 megapixel camera at the rear. This is a rather surprising because the X3, which is positioned above the X2, has a 3.2 megapixel camera.

The X2 was supposed to be priced at around the Rs. 5,000 mark when we first heard of it. However, it's a tad more expansive and has been priced at Rs. 5,999 in India. The phone is officially on sale now.

Nokia C7 with Symbian^3, 8MP Camera Leaked?

It was just yesterday that an image of a document showing Nokia's upcoming line-up of handsets was leaked. The document, apart from revealing the name of an entire new S-Series of handsets, also revealed the names of a few unreleased handsets from Nokia's existing series of phones.

Just a day later, we have images of what is said to be Nokia's next C-Series phone, the C7. Thought to be the C7-00, this phone is quite unlike the normal Nokia phones and features more of a Samsung-ish design with rounded edges and the design of the buttons. While the authenticity of the leaked image is yet to be confirmed, let us reveal to you the specs of this leaked device.
The phone you see in the image has a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen, runs Symbian^3 and boasts of an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and support for face detection. It is also rumoured to support multi touch gestures.
From what is seems, there is quite a bit of time left for this one to be announced officially. In all probability, the C7 would only land in stores after the N8 does later this year.

Nokia N900 Arrives in India Officially

Will cost Rs. 30,639

Nokia's Maemo 5 based tablet, the N900, was available in India via unofficial channels for quite some time now. Seeing the demand for the handset in the grey market, Nokia seems to have thought of bringing in the handset officially to India and that is exactly what it has done today.

Nokia has
officially launched the N900 in India. The N900 boasts of an impressive hardware spec sheet that begins right from the processor - an ARM Cortex A8 that provides 1GB of application memory and Open GL ES 2.0 Graphics acceleration support.

The OS is Linux-based Maemo 5 that provides the device comprehensive multitasking ability. The N900 also features a WVGA touchscreen and a full, slide-out QWERTY keyboard. It comes with 32GB of memory (which really isn't an upgrade over the N97) and an expansion slot - you can add up to 48GB - which should suffice for "normal" users. With a decent 5 megapixel camera, the N900 seems to take photography seriously. All the other features you might expect find their way in as well. We're talking about the A-GPS and FM transmitter support. On the connectivity front, it supports HSPA Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity as well.

The phone will cost Rs. 30,639 in India, which is on the expensive side - but is well below the initial expected cost of the handset - which was just over Rs. 35,000. The N900 was officially launched in August 2009.

The X-Series which, until now, comprised of the X3, the China specific X5 and the high-end X6, received a new sibling in the form of the X2. The X2, as evident from the naming scheme, will be positioned below the X3 and is a mid-range handset.

Nokia launches first open source Symbian phone

The first handset to use the Symbian operating system since it became open source has been announced by Nokia.

The N8 phone has a 12 megapixel camera and allows people to record and edit High Definition video clips, as well as watch web TV services.

Analysts said the phone was a "pivotal device" in efforts "to make Nokia's high end phones credible again".

It is also a chance for Symbian to prove itself alongside Google's Android operating system and Apple's iPhone.

Despite being the world's most popular smart phone software, Symbian has lost "mindshare" against more high-profile software, according to industry experts.

Analysts at CCS Insight described the Symbian 3 software as "evolutionary not revolutionary" but said it was a "key first step if it proves reliable".

Cinema support

It is the first version of the software since the Symbian foundation announced that it had made its code open source in February.

The Foundation - which includes Nokia, Motorola and Samsung amongst others - gave away the code to developers for free in the hope that it would help speed up the pace of improvements. Any organisation or individual can now use and modify it.

The software in the N8 allows the phone to have multi-touch and multi-tasking, meaning more than one application can be open at any one time.

The device will be Nokia's flagship smartphone. It can be plugged into home theatres and supports surround sound as well as high-quality video.

Social networks, such as Twitter and Facebook, can be displayed on the home screen in a single application.

Lee Williams, executive director of the Symbian Foundation, said he was "stoked" that Nokia had chosen to use the operating system on its phone.

Available in the third quarter of 2010, Nokia says the N8 will cost just under $500 for an unlocked carrier-independent model (i.e. no carrier subsidy announced yet), and would be able to work on AT&T and T-Mobile's US networks.
